Recyclopedia: Pallets

Pallets are used to transport products efficiently with minimal damage to goods. According to some studies, wood pallets make-up approximately 3% of total garbage. Most pallets are durable enough to be reused. Reuse pallets in good condition and repair broken pallets. Alternatives to wood pallets include durable, reusable and collapsible pallets made from plastic, wire mesh or other materials. These pallets cost more initially but as they are reused, over the long term they save money.

Recycle wooden pallets that are damaged beyond repair. Scrap wood from pallets can be processed into landscape mulch, animal bedding, compost and other products. Clean, unpainted wooden pallets can also be put in the clean wood area at Snohomish County Solid Waste Division Transfer Stations for composting.
